What are some typical applications of materials in materials genome engineering?
From October 22nd to 24th, the annual summary meeting of the National Key Research and Development Program "Specialized Database for Materials Genome Engineering and Materials Big Data Technology" was held at Beijing Xijiao Hotel. This project belongs to the "Key Technologies and Support Platform for Materials Genome Engineering" key special project in 2016. The project leader is University of Science and Technology Beijing, and the project has a total of five sub-projects. The Computer Network Information Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences is the leader of sub-project 1, "High-throughput Materials Calculation Big Data Processing Technology".
Yi Fengtao, director of the Industrial Development Promotion Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Zhang Wei, project manager, and project experts, including Academician Wang Haizhou, Academician Zhang Tongyi, Professor Yang Mingli, Researcher Zhang Guoqing, Researcher Zhao Wenming, Professor Xiang Yong, Professor Yang Zhongmin, and Professor Feng Qiang, were invited to attend the meeting. Also attending the meeting were project and sub-project leaders Professor Su Yanjing, Researcher Yang Xiaoyu, Professor Ban Xiaojuan, Professor Yin Haiqing, Professor Lu Wencong, Associate Researcher Huang Haiyou, and other project team members, totaling more than 70 people.
October 22nd and 23rd were for internal project exchanges. October 24th was the annual project report meeting. Professor Su Yanjing, the project leader, reported on the overall progress of the project to the experts, and the heads of each sub-project also gave their respective reports. Our center, as the responsible unit for sub-project 1, "High-throughput Materials Calculation Big Data Processing Technology," reported to the attending experts on the overall progress of the sub-project and the progress of the sub-tasks it undertook, including the construction of the first-principles calculation database for materials, the high-throughput calculation drive engine, data processing and visualization, and data handle identification research work, and clarified the work content and goals for the next stage.
The expert group fully affirmed the annual progress of the project. Many experts believe that this project is currently the most advanced among the materials genome engineering projects they have participated in reviewing and is expected to become a "benchmark project" for the special project. In particular, the sub-project 1 undertaken by our center received high praise. The responsible expert of the project specifically pointed out that the developed MatCloud is the first high-throughput online materials calculation platform in China, which truly implements the idea of "materials genome engineering." It is particularly commendable that the platform was developed with a commercialization concept from the outset, went online early to be open to the whole society, and has been continuously improved based on user feedback and usage experience. Academician Zhang Tongyi, Professor Xiang Yong, Professor Feng Qiang, and Researcher Zhao Wenming also gave full affirmation to the MatCloud high-throughput materials integrated computing platform and provided guidance for the further development of MatCloud.
